Announced at the New York Comic Con, a third ongoing title for the Amazon Princess will join Wonder Woman and Sensation Comics.
Wonder Woman ’77 will, like the successful Batman ’66 title, present all-new stories set in the continuity of the television series.
The show, starring Lynda Carter, ran for three seasons, from 1975 to 1979. The choice of the title Wonder Woman ’77 implies that the new series will ignore the TV show’s first season, which was set in World War II, and instead feature the scenario of the later seasons, in which the virtually-immortal Wonder Woman, returning to Man’s World after a 35-year absence, became an operative of the Inter-Agency Defense Command, partnered with Steve Trevor Jr., the son of her WWII sweetheart.
Like Batman ’66 and Sensation Comics, Wonder Woman ’77 will be released first as digital chapters, and subsequently gathered into a ‘dead tree’ form for physical release. The first digital chapters are anticipated for December this year, with the hardcopy edition available in early 2015.
