Joss Whedon to direct Batgirl?

Variety announces that Joss Whedon is working on Batgirl. We’re suspicious. We would love a Batgirl movie. We’d probably love a Joss Whedon Batgirl movie, even though we sometimes question his feminist credentials. But we note (as few others reporting this story do) that he is merely “nearing a deal”, and projects pretty often implode or people walk off them. (Remember the 1999 Sub-Mariner movie? Nope, ‘cos it never happened. Nor did Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man.) So let’s not count our chickens until someone is cast as Barbara Gordon.
