The first super-hero of the Marvel Universe will have some explaining to do at Customs and Immigration when he tries to get back to the USA …
The very first Marvel super-hero, Dr Droom, from Amazing Adventures 1, wasn’t a smash success.
Chosen by ancient Asian mystics to be granted the powers of hypnotism, and, uh, yoga, he was given one final gift – a facelift!
Formerly of the Caucasian persuasion, he was made-over in Tibet to reflect his new status as Earth’s occult guardian – which must have made for an interesting conversation when he presented his passport to US immigration!
Fortunately, Marvel had rather greater success with their next superheroic foray – Fantastic Four 1 – which kick-started the Marvel Universe as we know it.
Revived in the 1970s as “Dr Druid”, the wonkier aspects of our hero’s origin have been retroactively glossed over, to no-one’s astonishment …

I was shocked when I first read this strip a few years ago.
Mind you, it was from the same team who would go on to produce Batroc Zee Lee-pah, basically Inspector Clouseau in a bright costume.
Hey, don’t diss Batroc! His “Leap of Lurve” dating agency scam was masterly, i tell you – masterly!
