  • The “WandaMySister” Years: Best. Avengers. Ever!

The younger Avengers became Cap’s surrogate for the family he might have had in a kinder world, and it’s a tribute to Lee’s skill as a writer that Cap’s parental love for his protégés (tempered with impatience!) was tacitly evident.

  • Captain America: Civil War

Captain America: Civil War could have been a mess, but in the event, though there are flaws, it’s a well-made and entertaining piece.

  • He’s Got His Father’s…. Errr….

He’s going to need a whole lot of wetwipes…

  • Marvel announces movies for the rest of this decade

There’s going to be a Carol Danvers movie. Does anything else matter?

  • Robert Kanigher

On the fifth anniversary of Steve Whitaker’s death, we present for the first time the 1989 interview he and Tim Bateman conducted with legendary comics scripter and editor Robert Kanigher.

  • The Avengers

If flawed, this film’s as good as anyone could realistically expect. It’s told by people who understand the team’s nature and appeal, and can bottle that and serve it to audiences new and fannish alike. It’s been a five-film wait. And it’s pretty much been worth it.

  • Iron Age Alpha 1

I’m not sure if this is heading for a crossover or miniseries or what, but the setup has decent plot potential. A dying mad scientist with a grudge against Tony Stark kidnaps him and makes him watch as he uses one of Doctor Doom’s time machines to somehow pluck Dark Phoenix out of time. He provokes her and Tony gets to see her destroy the Earth – but he also gets thrown back in time, so I assume the rest of the story is Iron Man gathering forces to somehow prevent this.

  • Invincible Iron Man 500.1

This is the first of Marvel’s .1 sequence of issues over the next couple of months, intended to provide jumping-on points for new readers. I plan on trying most of them, as they will be new to me. I’ll be interested to see if they really are comprehensible for someone who has been out of touch for ages on most of the Marvel Universe, and interested to see how many keep me coming back for the subsequent issues.

  • Invincible Iron Man 500

In which the series undergoes the inevitable switch-over from the innocuous number of 33 to 500, as is the Mighty Marvel Trend with all the marquee names or marquee names-in-waiting, incorporating all the previous Iron Man titles along with mini-series, one-shots, and, what the hell, probably Contest Of The Champions, for the sake of a number redolent of legacy and grandiosity. We should all wear our wrinkles so well.
