  • Afterlife With Archie 1

Archie Comics continue their “reboot” with perhaps their most daring departure yet from their reliable template…

  • Junji Ito

Junji Ito is the creator of the best, scariest, most memorable horror tales I have seen in any medium.

  • Hellraiser 1

You would think publishers would learn by now. Every so often they get the bright idea of commissioning a well-known author to write a comic, under the misapprehension that the ability to write a novel automatically results in the ability to write a good comic. You can count the numerous casualties who have attempted this in the past, and you’ll find their efforts lying in many a book store bargain bin. Will Clive Barker’s Hellraiser change that trend?

  • Grimm Fairy Tales Holiday Edition 2010

This comic sounded as though it would be a fun, undemanding read. It’s a portmanteau horror anthology with a Christmas theme, a bit like those Amicus horror movie anthologies from the 1970s. In actuality, it’s poorly written and drawn and I’d to struggle to even finish reading it, only doing so for the purposes of this review.

  • Doc Macabre 1

Doc Macabre is a slight but nonetheless entertaining comic from the team of Steve Niles and Berni Wrightson.

  • American Vampire 9

I sometimes struggle to see the point of Vertigo. I guess it wants to be seen as DC’s serious, arty line, far from the superheroes, for intelligent adults, equating to indie graphic novels. Trouble is, it always seems to me to be kind of like a DC comic but with more violence and swearing and stuff like that, and rarely any more genuine intelligence or substance, mostly just the trappings of those kinds of values.
