Appropriately for the month of Valentine’s Day, the MAC cosmetics company chose February to launch its new line of comics-related cosmetics; the Betty & Veronica collection pays tribute to the two great loves of Archie’s life: Betty Cooper, the sweet-but spunky girl next door, and Veronica Lodge, the spoilt rich vixen with a well-concealed heart of gold.

The range launched February 7th with an extensive range of promotional “personal appearances” by models representing Archie, Betty and Veronica, and by Archie Comics artist/writer Dan Parent, who made a number of appearances including a stint at London’s Selfridges.

The line is split evenly between the two classic sweethearts of the ardent but indecisive Mr. Andrews, with Betty’s products bearing titles like “Summer Sweetheart”, and “Kiss and Don’t Tell”, while Veronica’s line runs a little naughtier, with names such as “Past Curfew” and “Boyfriend Stealer”.

This is not MAC’s first comics-themed collaboration – they launched a Wonder Woman cosmetics line in 2011.

The campaign is unashamedly “retro”, harking back to the character’s 1950s appearances – and, perhaps significantly, making no reference to the fact that just over a year ago, Archie finally made his choice – and dumped both Betty and Veronica to go steady with Valerie, the bassist from Josie and the Pussycats!
